The Fall River Police Department in Massachusetts has seen both sides of the job market. It was only four years ago that the FRPD was cut down to 190 officers as a result of layoffs from limits to its budget. At the time, the budget cuts resulted in 53 police officers being laid off as well as 45 firefighters. A recent $1.25 million federal grant opened up the coffers somewhat and allowed the police department to bring an additional 10 officers into the fold. The grant will be spread over a three-year period and will hopefully allow the police department to send 15 to 20 recruits to next year`s police academy class.
